Of writers and prints

By Florie Lyn Masarate

Authors, especially those who are just beginners, usually have agents to help them put their materials into prints. They are first advised on the best way to market their works; having the right graphics and drawings for covers of their books, the printing quality that it should possess, the right publicity needed and the “would-be” response of the people. Afterwards, the agents would have to look for the publisher willing to put the book in the market. Rejections should be anticipated from the publishers not willing to take the risk of putting something new and unheard of out in the public. Something new would be ground for a trial and error run that some of these publishers would not want to get into.

Getting your work on print is something that needs time, lots of energy and an abundance of patience. The technique would have to be submitting your work to as many publishers as you can get. If feedbacks take a long time to come, there is no harm in inquiring and making follow ups. If this still does not bring good result, there is always the possibility of a second chance. Try submitting again. Another thing to do is keeping in touch with what is currently making waves in the market. Writing about the right topic at the right time is a big point coming your way. Being flexible in writing is also one of the characteristic that id inherent in a writer. Sticking to mainly one topic or concept is not keeping up with what the readers want. Change is always something that people look for, even in reading materials. Having knowledge about many topics to write about will definitely help in having good responses.

After having gone through all these, the next big step would be getting your work printed. It would be wise to look for the printing company that will be able to give your work an edge among the many others in the market. Printing styles and quality should adhere to your purpose of achieving readership. Oftentimes, people judge beforehand. Getting impressions from what they see only. First impressions eventually leads to curiosity that continues on to have lasting effects on the person concerned. It would also be a factor adding more styles to prints, like colors and graphics to enhance your work. Choosing the right quality prints and designs are for you and your agent to decide on, and for the printers to accomplish. It is also up to them to decide what would be best for the concept you are thinking of. The result of all this would be having your book in bookstores and shops everywhere. With you waiting for the response that you will get from the people that your book attracted. And watching out for reviews about it.

Unless you are a born writer genius or you carry a popular name, these are just some of the things that you will have to go through to have your thoughts in prints.
