Repetitions to remember

By Florie Lyn Masarate

Try sitting in front of the television for a day and notice the commercials that keep coming in every now and then. Start counting them. How about in print media. In more than one magazine or newspaper you see the same ads with the same exact wordings in the same style. If you start counting how many times you have seen the same commercials and ads, you would be startled at the result. And sometimes seeing the same things would make you wonder if the people making these things have gone crazy or what. Later on, you would notice yourself repeating them even in your mind. Well, you have just been hustled unknowingly into their sales strategy.
Repetition is an old technique that advertisers use to boost sales and marketing their product. People may have noticed but the more they get to see these things, the more it has been embedded in their minds. This style has been known to make people remember, and remember they do. Clever printing and television advertisements that can only be seen once in awhile can cause admiration from people seeing them, for fifteen minutes or so. But try asking them about it after an hour. They wouldn’t remember anything about it except maybe being impressed. People needs bit of pounding sometimes to have to get your message through. Repeating names or address twice or thrice makes them stick in people’s mind even if they want it or not.
People may think of these repetitions as annoying. Annoying it may seem but effective nonetheless. They would think of that state of being annoyed then they would produce of the name and that something that annoyed them. Hearing and seeing these things make you memorize them and before you know it you would find yourself reciting and quoting excerpts from them without even putting an ounce of concentration into these things. Works, didn’t it?
Have you encountered a store that keeps advertising on radios, every print material and even on television about them having a sale and encouraging people to shop there? Ever notice that you get to be curious and start going on their sales. And when people ask you about it, you can recite to them the exact address, days of sale and where you heard it from. And you carry it all up to the coming years even after the store is not existing anymore. Then you would be quoting it to friends who haven’t had the chance of seeing it.
See repetition works. Repetition is really something that can help these advertisers in their sales. There’s nothing like repetition to make them remember. Simple strategy, just repetition. Repetition of words and phrases that needed repetition.
