Ways to increase the Usability of the site.

Websites are the most valuable in the world these days. Each year, companies and individuals spend millions of dollars. A good homepage can help you to attract more hits and this increase the revenues of the company.

In this article I will tell you how to increase the usability of the site.

1. Start the page with a line that summarize about your company especially when you are new and not famous. You should tell first time visitors about the site’s purpose.
2. Put keyword or phrase in the title tag it should be related to the page this will help you to get good position in search engine also.
3. Using search box is an important part of any big website. When user want to find some information it can be easily available to the user.
4. Content rich pages and reader friendly websites are inherently high-value. Such sites make a base of repeat visitors.
5. Recommendations from satisfied and unsatisfied customer will be very crucial element in attracting new site visitors on an ever expanding web.
6. Embedding JavaScript into an HTML page can bring the page to life in any number of ways
a. Java script is that script can make the page more immediately interactive because it process is on the client machine there is no need of server and in this way it saves the time.
b. The most visible features built into pages recently with the help of JavaScript are the so-called image rollovers.
c. The form validation is extremely useful application of Java Script. While user enters the data into fields, script can examine the validity of the data.
7. Don’t use frames and wired colors. Static text, hyperlinks and visited links are of the same color through out the site.
8. Don’t require your users to download a plugin unless they are strongly committed to use your site ( otherwise they will realize what a hassle it is and they will leave )
9. 90% of users work at 14” monitor. Always try to work to the resolution of smaller monitor.
10. Just like a building has blueprints before it’s built, so to should your website. Make sure everything is outlined first - What pages your going to include, what goes where and so on.
11. Consistency should be maintained to prevent confusion and anxiety. A site should be consistent from page to page, section to section and from sub-site to sub-site.
12. When user clicks the button something should happen on the screen so that users know that system has registered the action.
13. Almost all users dislike the scrolling tickets (marquee). User complaint that they are hard to read and time consuming to interpret.
